Sexual Orientation and Discrimination in Goods & Services
Goods, facilities and services not covered by legislation on discrimination
on the grounds of sexual orientation
The provision of the following goods, facilities and services is not covered
by the regulations:-
- a person who takes into her/his home a child(ren), an elderly person(s),
or a person needing particular care, and who treats that person as if they
are a member of her/his family. This will not count as someone providing
facilities or services to the public
- the provision of goods, facilities or services in employment where such
discrimination is already unlawful under employment law, or would be but
for an exception
- adoption agencies which are part of a religious organisation (this exemption
is limited)
- blood donation in certain circumstances
- insurance in certain circumstances
- associations and clubs in certain circumstances
- premises which are let out in certain circumstances
- certain public authorities
- certain charities.
Most of these exemptions are limited to specific situations and you should
seek specific advice if you may be affected.
